On the road again. do do do do do.
Waking up on vacation is so refreshing. There's just this energy that radiates about that makes you not seem the 1/8 awake you would be at home. Even at 6:00am! You just feel fully rejuvenated no matter what (or how many cervezas) the night before entailed. Not to mention in Guatemala all of the people passing for work (might I add, not in a hurry) bid you a kind "buenos dias". Friendly is an understatement. Home away from home is more like it!
So with all that said, what better way to start the day, and your first full one at that, with another road-trip. Not a quasi one this time. A legit, real-deal road-trip? In my opinion there really is no better way.
We're talking one of those road trips that comes complete with absorbent amounts of Independence Day road-blocks all while being packed into a teeny tiny "turismo" bus.
Still no better way. Well, that is unless you didn't have our driver. Trafficshmaffic. He was determined to get us to our destination and in a timely manner even if it meant taking the "back roads" of Guatemala.
It's pretty amazing the things you see off the beaten path. Which goes back to my most favorite quote ever, "it's not about the destination, but the journey". I mean we got a huge glimpse into real Guatemalan life all while feeling like we were on a ride at Great Adventure. Seriously I think "back roads" is a synonym for "off-roading" in Guate.
