Some people come into our lives and leave footprints on our hearts.

That is exactly what Diego, our very kind flute merchant did May of last year.
It was a busy day in the market of Chichicastenango when he approached us, timidly selling the most beautiful hand-carved flutes I had ever seen. Unfortunately, although we wanted to support him our budgets at the time did not call for it (side note: it's always wise to not carry too much $$$ to the markets. Not even for theft purposes, but for over-spending!) Instead we asked him to join us for lunch. He accepted and off we went to the restaurant of his choice where we chowed down and cheers'ed. He had fresh juice - not beer - don't worry! ;) Sad to say good-bye we parted ways, leaving him with a pizza pie so he could host his very own pizza party with his buddies.
one year later
Having made such an imprint on my heart as one of the kindest and most intelligent children around you could only imagine my excitement when I felt a tap on my shoulder a year later in the market of Chichi. Any idea who it was? IT WAS DIEGO! :) Once again selling those beautiful instruments, we opted to support him with another delicious meal instead. So it was off to the restaurant of Diego's choice for almuerzo. This time his sister was in tow, who could not have been any cuter. The 2 of them together bring a joy to your heart as you watch him help her eat and listen to them chuckle together. They are quite the precious duo.
Sadly, it was that time again to say good-bye. I know we'll see him again in the market of Chichi though and hopefully, we can have another great lunch or pizza party or perhaps buy some flutes :)
